• Day One - Wednesday
You will depart early in the morning and travel by road to Accra. You will be responsible for clearing immigration and customs at the “Semi” border between Nigeria and Republic of Benin, the village of “Houtounji” between the Republic of Benin and Togo, and the city of “Aflao” at the Togo-Ghana border. You will be responsible for all the expenses of crossing the border going to and from Accra. The total anticipated round trip cost of crossing the borders is 2,000 Naira.
After arrival in Accra, you will check in at the Sankofa Beach House (see www.sankofameroetours.com) or accommodations close by depending on availability.
Your tour director will introduce you to the Sankofa Meroe Tour Guide. They will give you an orientation of the program and general information about Accra and Ghana. SIM chips/phone numbers and mobile phones are available for rent and can be pre-ordered prior to your departure. There is also internet access at the Beach House.
In the evening there will be a welcome dinner at the Beach House.
• Day Two - Thursday
After a late breakfast, you are free to relax from the long road journey and walk along the beach, swim in the ocean, play volley ball or read a book.
After your bar-b-que lunch, you will travel to town to take a tour of the University of Ghana at Legon. Dinner will be in town. After dinner, bowling, visiting Accra’s live music or dancing clubs will be optional.
• Day Three - Friday
After breakfast, you will travel to Cape Coast and Elmina, about a two hour drive viewing along the way splendid beaches dotted with fishing villages. Upon arrival, you will experience the exhilarating effect of a tropical forest at Kakum National Park. You will take a nature walk into Kakum and traverse one of the worlds few rope bridges in the canopy of the forest. After the nature walk, we will stop for lunch in town.
During lunch, there will be a presentation and discussion on “Resistance” as an introduction to the Cape Coast Castle. You will be guided through the Cape Coast Castle that will include a film, the West African Historical Museum and a tour of the Cape Coast Castle constructed in 1653.
• Day Four - Saturday
After breakfast, the tour guides will take you on a sightseeing tour of Accra, Ghana’s political and administrative capital, a city with a blend of colonial and modern images. You will visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Black Star Square. Following the tour of the Nkrumah Memorial, you will have an introduction to shopping at the Arts Center Bazaar in the Center for National Culture. You can buy gifts like the popular “Kente cloth, fabrics, carvings, leather goods and jewelry, as well as a host of other souvenir items.
Dinner will be in town. After dinner, bowling, visiting Accra’s live music or dancing clubs will be optional. Transportation is available until you are ready to return to the Beach House.
• Day Five - Sunday
You will depart for Lagos early in the morning with an early evening arrival in Lagos.
Price: 30,000 Naira per person based on double occupancy and a minimum of a 5-person tour.
