"Pan African Student Summit & Tour" (22 July– 8 August, 2010 ) Accra, Ghana

Day One - Friday 22nd July
You will depart the US from your destination.

Day Two - Saturday 23rd July
You will arrive at Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana.  You will be greeted and assisted once you have completed the immigration and customs formalities.  You will transfer to your accommodations.

After check-in, a brief rest and lunch, your Tour Director will introduce you to the Sankofa Meroe Tour Guide.  The Guide will give you an orientation of the program tour.  In addition, you will be given general health and safety information. 

After the orientation, your Guide will take make arrangements for you to change money and make phone calls. (With prior notice, we can also assist you with a mobile phone while in the country).  The Guide will then take you on Part One of your sightseeing tour of Accra, Ghana’s political and administrative capital, a city with a blend of colonial and modern images.
You will return to the hotel to freshen up and prepare for Welcome Dinner.  

Day Three - Sunday 24th July
After breakfast, the Guide will introduce you to the "does and don’ts" of moving around in Ghana. After the “does and don’ts” session, Part Two of the city tour will include a visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Museum and Independence Square. The Museum visit is followed by a brief introduction to gift shopping at the Arts Center Bazaar in the Center for National Culture.   There, you will see on display the popular “Kente clothe, fabrics, carvings, leather goods and jewelry, as well as a host of other souvenir items. 

The tour is followed by an afternoon at the Sankofa Beach House beach featuring swimming, cultural entertainment and a special Bar-B-Que lunch. 

Day Four - Monday 25th July
After breakfast, you will participate in the first part of a three-part introduction to the Ghanaian "Twi" language. After the Twi lesson, you will be given a “home stay” orientation and move to your respective homes.  The rest of the day will be spent “getting comfortable,” studying information the materials supplied to you and working on your Twi.

Day Five - Tuesday 26th July
After breakfast, you will have the second day of the orientation program that will include a presentation of the geography of Ghana and a discussion of the "Fears and Expectations" surrounding your visit to Ghana. The rest of the day will be spent studying information the materials supplied to you and working on your Twi.

Day Six - Wednesday 27th July
After breakfast, you will complete the three-day on campus orientation program that includes a presentation on Ghanaian culture and history at the University of Ghana, Legon.  After a short break you will have the third installment of your Twi lessons. 
Later in the day you will travel to Sankofa Beach House to register for the Pan African Student Summit.  Following the “Welcome Dinner” you will participate in the Summit Orientation "Finding Common Ground."

Day Nine - Saturday 30th July
 Free day at Sankofa Beach House

Day Ten - Sunday 31st July
After breakfast, you will depart for the Krobo- Odumase. There, you will meet with the local chief and elders of the village and you will be given a tour of the village. You will also get an opportunity to learn about the production of the beautiful beads that are famous in this part of Ghana.  You will get an opportunity to sample Ghanaian cuisine and their local drinks. After the visit to Krobo-Odumase, you will depart to Kumasi for an evening check-in and dinner.

Day Eleven - Monday 1st August
After breakfast, there will be a tour of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a lecture on Ashanti culture.  After lunch, you will visit the Center for National Culture for the "Kumasi Cultural Orientation" and Prempeh II Jubilee Museum. You will continue on with a city tour visiting the Asantehene's Palace and the Okomfo Anokye legendary sword. 

Day Twelve - Tuesday 2nd August
After breakfast, there will be lecture on the wood carving and textile production and symbolism in Ghana.   After lunch, you will visit the Ashanti Kingdom Cultural Villages:  Ahiwaa woodcarving village; Ntonso, Adinkra clothe making village; and Bonwire Kente weaving village. 

Day Thirteen - Wednesday 3rd August
After breakfast, you will depart for Cape Coast.  Along the way to Cape Coast you will visit the old "Slave Market and Cemetery" in Assin Manso.  After arrival and check-in at Cape Coast you will have lunch.   After lunch there will be a special presentation on "Resistance" and a discussion.

Day Fourteen - Thursday 4th August
After breakfast you will be guided through the Cape Coast Castle and the West African Historical Museum. The tour is followed by lunch where you will enjoy Ghanaian cuisine. After lunch, there will be a facilitated discussion about your visit to the Cape Coast Castle.  In the evening you will participate in the Emancipation Day Candlelight Vigil and Program at the Cape Coast Castle.

Day Fifteen - Friday 5th August
After breakfast, you will experience the exhilarating effect of a tropical forest at Kakum Nature Reserve. You will take a nature walk into Kakum and traverse one of the world’s few rope bridges in the canopy of the forest. After the nature walk we will travel down to a nearby beach for a scenic lunch and free afternoon.

Day Sixteen - Saturday 6th August
Return to Accra and the rest of the day is free.

Day Seventeen - Sunday 7th August
After breakfast, you will visit the W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Center for Pan African Culture and lay a ceremonial wreath on behalf of the group at the tomb of Dr. Du Bois marking the end of Pan African Student Summit visit to Ghana.  In the evening there will be a farewell dinner prior to your departure from Ghana.
 
Day Eighteen - Tuesday 8th August
You will check-in and departure early in the morning.

Price: $1,600 per Student (based upon 20 students) not inclusive of transportation to and from Ghana.  In the event that there are not 20 students, a modified version of the Summit Tour will be made available to those interested in the Summit and Tour Package.
